New release: Capturing Life, by Steve McCurry
For the second time, Steve McCurry works hand in hand with ARTIKA to create a new artist’s book edition: Capturing Life. The face of Sharbat Gula, the Afghan girl, introduces the work as the protagonist of the case, captivating the public with the same intensity and emotion as in her first cover forty years ago –National Geographic, 1985.

The Art Book includes 40 original snapshots by the artist, in which the renowned photographer captures a moment of the world’s vitality after traveling through 25 countries, with a wide variety of landscapes and settings: deserts, jungles, wildlife, and war zones. Traveling the world, blending into the environment, and connecting with the people who inhabit it are the pillars of the essence of his photography. In this artist’s book, all of them come together in a reflection on the power and strength of the human face.
Beyond the visual narrative revealed in each of the images personally selected by McCurry, the story of his artistic journey is told from multiple angles through the essays by Pico Iyer and Mario Calabresi, whose analyses frame his legacy.

Left: Young Man Pours Ash on Himself. Omo Valley, Ethiopia, 2012.
Right: Mahout and His Elephant at a Sanctuary. Chiang Mai, Thailand, 2010.
In McCurry’s own words, Capturing Life is “the definitive collection of my work. A body of work that represents what I would like to be remembered for.”
Crafted with the highest quality and under McCurry’s attentive eye at every stage of the process, this new edition is more than a book: it is a work of art and a collector’s piece, signed by the artist and limited to 2.998 copies that encapsulate a unique sensory and emotional experience.
