Official presentation of “Canticle of the Sun” by Joan Miró
On January 19, the Fundació Miró in Barcelona hosted the official presentation of ARTIKA’s new artist’s book, Canticle of the Sun by Joan Miró. This edition is dedicated to one of the painter’s most mature and creative periods and brings together the 33 engravings that make up the series.
The event was attended by Joan Punyet Miró, grandson and representative of the Successió Miró, and Marko Daniel, Director of the Fundació, who presented the work alongside Marc Buil, Global Director of ARTIKA.
The edition consists of 2,998 exclusive, numbered copies. The Art Book brings together the series of 33 engravings, reproduced at 75% of their original size, revealing the artist’s mastery and command of the etching and aquatint techniques. The Study Book, with contributions from experts Robert Lubar Messeri, Mercedes Durban Monreal, and Jacques Dalarun, explores Miró’s career and artistic evolution, with particular attention to the analysis of the engravings—a technique Miró mastered with extraordinary skill. Both volumes are presented in a case that reproduces plate number 20 from the series, offering a suggestive preview of Miró’s artistic universe.

This highly characteristic piece by Miró reveals a visual language that transcends pictorial tradition to explore the relationship between art, nature, spirituality, and universality. As Joan Punyet Miró notes, his grandfather “created a language that was born and died with him,” making Canticle of the Sun a clear example of the painter’s universal talent.
In 2025, the 50th anniversary of the publication of the artist’s original work was celebrated. On this occasion, his grandson Joan Punyet Miró stated: “This edition of Canticle of the Sun by ARTIKA would undoubtedly have been very well received by my grandfather, because it contains everything he embodied in the creation of an illustrated work.”
