Global launch of Michelangelo at the British Museum
We presented a copy of our Michelangelo: Drawings artists’ book at one of the world’s major museums on 13 February.
ARTIKA’s latest edition now has a home at the British Museum. The launch event, complete with representatives from the Spanish press, was attended by Hugo Chapman and Sarah Vowles, experts from the museum’s Department of Prints and Drawings, as well as ARTIKA Global Director Marc Buil and the editors of the book.
The British Museum experts authored several of the articles in this edition’s Study Book. Sarah Vowles underscored the “wonderful experience” of being able to bring together in one volume drawings that, because of their fragility, are rarely exhibited.
Hugo Chapman also commended the value of this artists’ book. “I’ve never seen such a high-quality reproduction of Michelangelo’s drawings. It’s as close as you can get to the originals”.
Marc Buil noted the significant role this project plays in ARTIKA’s trajectory. “This year is our twentieth anniversary and we felt we owed a debt to one of the greatest artists of all time”, he said.
