Steve McCurry

(Philadelphia, 1950) Trained in cinematography at the University of Pennsylvania, he began his career in local newspapers before traveling to India with little more than his camera.

A curious and tireless observer, he has captured the human condition in everything from everyday scenes to major wars and our coexistence with nature. His photograph of the Afghan girl for National Geographic brought the reality of refugees to the world.

McCurry has contributed to The New York Times and Time, among others, and has received awards such as the Robert Capa Gold Medal and four World Press Photo Awards.

He is currently a member of Magnum Photos and the International Photography Hall of Fame, has exhibited on five continents, and founded the charitable organization ImagineAsia in Afghanistan.
