Miquel Barceló

Cahier de Félins

(SOLD OUT EDITION)

The most valuable and oldest collection of cave art in the world, the Chauvet cave, is the core of inspiration for a series of watercolors by Miquel Barceló. The visual impact that the artist experienced when contemplating the paintings of this cave are reflected in an original work that merges two periods of art history.

ARTIKA presents a limited edition of 2,998 copies, numbered and signed by the artist himself, in which Barceló offers us his particular vision of the Chauvet cave.

Cahier de félins shows the reproduction of 37 drawings exhibited in a monumental notebook, a sequence of felines in which Barceló fuses the movement of the past with that of the present in a single, firm and sure stroke.

A book of studies, designed for the reader to enjoy the same sensation, the same visual impact and the same emotion that the artist experienced when he entered the cave. All the components to discover Chauvet through the protagonists and great specialists.

«As a finishing touch, a reproduction of one of the watercolors from the Cahier de Félins, selected by Barceló himself, is included.»

Conceived under the artist’s guidelines, a natural and elegant maple wood case collects the exclusive elements of this unrepeatable jewel. A self-portrait of Miquel Barceló interpreting himself as a feline is reproduced in pyrography, created expressly for this edition, which gives even more strength and personality to this unique work.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

The books, hand-sewn with high quality vegetable thread, have been signed, one by one, by Miquel Barceló.

The volumes are covered in ecru-colored paperback cloth. Specialists in bookbinding guarantee a perfect finish.

The case is handcrafted in solid maple wood. A drawing made exclusively for this work is reproduced on its cover.

The cover of the case is stamped by pyrography, a technique that consists of burning the surface of the wood by regulating the intensity of the heat.

The band, with a magnetized closure system, is lined in the same way as the books and stamped with the artist’s name.

Each volume is a unique handcrafted piece that has undergone a careful process of printing, sewing, binding and boxing.

Miquel Barceló

Miquel Barceló

(1957) His eagerness to experiment continuously and his inexhaustible energy have made the author continue to surprise, after forty years of career. Barceló’s early interest in art comes from his mother, a painter in the Mallorcan landscape tradition. From here, he has experimented with artistic movements such as Art Brut or Action Painting, influenced by Jackson Pollock, among others.

Finally, the self-taught author found his own artistic path, based on neo-expressionism.
