ARTIKA PRESENTS “GAUDÍ UP CLOSE” AT LA PEDRERA

ARTIKA presented its latest work, Gaudí Up Close, at the iconic Modernist building on Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona on 27 October. First conceptualised 13 years ago, this artist’s book showcases over fifty of the original drawings by the master of Catalan Modernism that have been preserved.

Hosted by La Pedrera, the official presentation of Gaudí Up Close was attended by Macarena de Eguilior, the managing editor at ARTIKA, and publishing director Marc Buil.

“I think that the drawings allow us to see Gaudí as we’ve never seen him before: we don’t see the architect through his famous buildings, but rather through what he drew, which is a more intimate and introspective facet”, said de Eguilior. “It’s a much more intimate approach to Gaudí’s life and work than anything that has been done before”, she added. What makes this book so special is that it managed to collect all Gaudí’s drawings for a fresh look at the artist from a critical, expert and highly valuable perspective.

The drawings by the master of Catalan Modernism are presented in a case inspired by the characteristic chimneys that top Casa Milà-La Pedrera. It includes the Art Book, which contains 48 original unpublished drawings, each of incalculable value; the Study Book, with articles and studies by prestigious experts from the Gaudí universe; and the Architect’s Folder, which contains three full-size drawings of some of the artist’s greatest original designs.
