Toulouse-Lautrec

Toulouse-Lautrec

(1864-1901) Toulouse-Lautrec is the forerunner of poster art and a great representative of the Parisian nightlife. Its groundbreaking work is framed in the city district of Montmartre, in its cabarets and theatres, in its endless nights and its peculiar characters. This artistic universe, from which Toulouse-Lautrec was nourished, later on promoted the great cultural movements of the 20th century. The living souls and environments reproduced by Toulouse-Lautrec reflected his unusual creative freedom, a prelude to the new trends in contemporary art that were yet to come.
